Purpose¶
A practical tool to evaluate whether a teaching story or illustration is appropriate for the local community.
How to use this matrix¶
- List the story or illustration you plan to use.
- Identify whether it fits Category 1 through Category 5.
- Choose the clearest and most locally relevant story available.
Categories¶
- Category 1: Foreign concepts nobody understands
- Category 2: Foreign concepts some may understand
- Category 3: Familiar concepts with foreign values
- Category 4: Locally experienced and understood
- Category 5: Experienced but not understood; useful as a bridge
Matrix¶
| Story or illustration | Category | Why it fits here | Local clarity | Gospel bridge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Guidance¶
- Prefer Category 4 whenever possible.
- Use Category 5 only when it connects with shared experience and points to Gospel truth.
- Avoid Category 1 illustrations that depend on foreign institutions or assumptions.
